Perbandingan Efektivitas Media Leaflet dan Video dalam Peningkatan Pengetahuan HIV-AIDS di Asrama Yapan

Abstract

Background:  Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the human immune system, while Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a collection of symptoms caused by HIV infection. Health promotion efforts can be delivered through appropriate and easily accepted media, such as leaflets, videos, and counseling, which are expected to influence knowledge levels. Purpose:  The aim of this study was to assess the use of leaflet media, video media, and counseling in improving the knowledge of students about HIV/AIDS at the Yapan Dormitory, Kotaraja, Jayapura City. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a two-group pretest-posttest model. The research was conducted in October 2022. The population consisted of all students residing in the Yapen Dormitory, totaling 45 individuals, with a total sampling technique employed. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using univariate methods. Result: The results showed that the use of leaflet media increased the number of respondents with good knowledge from 2 individuals (13.3%) in the pretest to 15 individuals (100%) in the posttest. In the video media group, none of the respondents (0.0%) demonstrated good knowledge in the pretest, but this increased to 14 individuals (93.3%) in the posttest. Similarly, in the health education intervention group, none of the respondents (0.0%) had good knowledge in the pretest, which increased to 14 individuals (93.3%) in the posttest.Conclusion:  In conclusion, both video and education methods were found to be more effective in increasing knowledge about HIV/AIDS.
