Abstract

Background:  Coughing etiquette is one of the behavioral components in preventing the transmission of infectious diseases. The etiquette refers to the proper and appropriate way of covering the nose and mouth using a tissue or the inner elbow when coughing or sneezing. Purpose:  The purpose of this study is to examine the coughing and sneezing etiquette among visitors of health services at the Waena Community Health Center. Methods: This research used a quantitative approach with a descriptive research design. The study was conducted from October 2022 to October 2023, and the research site was the Waena Community Health Center. The study population consisted of 4,979 health service visitors. The sample size, determined using Slovin’s formula, was 320 respondents taken with accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis with the assistance of SPSS.  Result: The results showed that 51.2% of respondents had good knowledge regarding coughing and sneezing etiquette. In terms of attitude, 59.1% of respondents demonstrated a positive attitude. Based on questionnaire responses, 67.5% of visitors exhibited good practice in coughing and sneezing etiquette. Conclusion:  The study concludes that  knowledge and attitudes toward coughing and sneezing etiquette among visitors at Waena Community Health Center are generally positive.
